Getting Paid Art Teachers Back into our Elementary Schools

We believe that art is such an important part of a person's individuality, and fostering the ability to create at a young age does so much. While our school district does have a wonderful volunteer-based art program, we feel that it isn't enough and that students should have better access to art classes before middle school to build those foundational skills.

What is Art’s Role in Education?

Creativity - Art fosters creativity by allowing students to explore and express their unique ideas through various forms. This enhances their ability to think imaginatively.

Critical Thinking - Engaging in art helps students develop critical thinking skills as they make decisions about their work and analyze different artistic approaches.

Emotional Expression - Art provides a channel for students to express their emotions and feelings, which supports emotional development and helps in managing stress.

Skill Development - Artistic activities improve fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, which are essential for performing various daily tasks and learning activities.

Cultural Awareness - Exposure to different art styles and cultural traditions through art education helps students understand and appreciate diverse cultures and perspectives.

Academic Support - Art education can enhance academic performance by improving skills like observation and detail, which are beneficial in other subject areas. This enhances their ability to think imaginatively.

Collaborate with Farm and Agriculture

Farm and Agriculture is such a vitally important part of the Grand Valley.

From the gorgeous sprawling vineyards in Palisade to the hundreds of herds of cattle in Loma, and every sustainable farm in between, our community boasts an incredible wealth of home-grown goodness all within a short drive.

Our goal is to create events for the community that combine the beauty of local art and farm and agriculture, that you can't get anywhere else. Our events also strive to support other local and small businesses.

We believe that when we work together, everyone benefits.

Offer Public Art Classes in a Community Classroom

Public art classes foster community by bringing people together through shared creative experiences.

They provide a platform for individuals of all skill levels to grow themselves while learning from one another. These classes encourage collaboration, strengthen social bonds and promote a sense of belonging, ultimately enriching the local culture. By participating in public art initiatives, community members can contribute to a vibrant, inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and creativity.

Our hope is to open a community classroom that offers a broad range of classes including various forms of painting, drawing, journaling, sculpting, mosaic, poetry, and anything else the community desires.

Build A Strong Community

Art can have a profound impact on communities in several key ways:

  1. Cultural Expression and Preservation: Art helps communities express and preserve their unique cultural identities. Through traditional crafts, music, dance, and visual arts, communities can celebrate their heritage and pass it on to future generations.

  2. Social Cohesion: Art projects and events bring people together, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. Whether through collaborative murals, community theater, or public art installations, art creates spaces for interaction and connection.

  3. Dialogue and Understanding: Art can serve as a catalyst for dialogue, helping people explore and understand complex social issues. By addressing themes such as inequality, justice, and diversity, art encourages empathy and promotes mutual understanding.

  4. Economic Development: Art can contribute to the economic vitality of a community by attracting tourism, creating jobs, and supporting local businesses. Art festivals, galleries, and cultural districts can stimulate economic growth and enhance the quality of life.

  5. We hope to foster all of these needs and help create a stronger community than ever before.
